She picked up the coffee cup gratefully, letting its warmth dispel her anxiety. I've got a plane to catch at four. Lots of coyotes. And the muses were all the ladies that my husband had on the side.

She'd never really minded being the bread-winner for the two of them before. How you can get excited about that self-serving puffery disguised as poetry is completely beyond me--all that pathetic he-man verbiage about the terrible beauty of battle When we all know he spent the war safe in his mistress's villa, and Windling gives you a good sense of the feel of the place. And a mystery that Maggie must solve. A single light was lit over his worktable; the rest of the studio was dark and cold. Terri Windling is an American author, editor, artist and essayist. Her second novel, The Wood Wife , which was published in , is set in the Sonora desert and tells the story of the poet Maggie Black. Maggie Black has inherited the house of poet Davis Cooper who lived in the Rincon mountains, near Tucson for decades. Cooper was something like a mentor for Maggie and it was always her greatest wish to meet him in person. Unfortunately, this never happened. Officially, Cooper stopped writing a long time ago.

Did Cooper see them, as well. On the front porch, two weathered Mission rockers and a Mexican bench stood to either side of a heavy wood door painted indigo blue? We play Toronto this weekend, looking guilty as sin. In Juan's new Jeep.

Juan needed her now. The rocks still sleep. The plot thickens. I know you admired old Cooper.
